The Florida Region Announces the Passing of official Dave Greenlee
With great sadness we announce the loss of our fellow official Dave Greenlee. Dave passed away at his home on December 28, 2020 after battling cancer for the past several years.
Dave Greenlee grew up in Los Angeles and attended the University of Southern California. He went into the Navy and served for 13 years, achieving the rank of lieutenant. He served on an aircraft carrier and was later stationed in Virginia Beach, Va. He moved to Florida and worked at the Rivera Beach Recruiting Center before moving on to other pursuits. He got his MBA at Florida Atlantic University. He enjoyed camping trips with volleyball friends and one of his hobbies was photography.
As an adult Dave enjoyed playing volleyball in Southern California, Virginia Beach before coming to Florida in the mid 1990's. He became an official, and got his USAV National Referee certification in 2003 and also became a National Scorer in 2008. Dave was a member of the Region Training and Evaluation Team. He worked to recruit, train and certify officials in South Florida and throughout the region. Dave also worked as the Head Referee for the Palm Beach Juniors club tournaments since 2008. Dave was well known for his sharp wit. He also had a huge heart and worked hard to grow the officials he worked with and the sport of volleyball in the Florida Region. His contributions were numerous and he will be missed.
It was Dave's wish to be cremated and have his ashes scattered at sea. The Florida Region has set up a memorial scholarship fund in Dave's name. If you would like to contribute, please click here. Thank you.
