Which Courses Should I Take?
Each person participating on the Officiating Team must have taken the course for the duty they perform. It is recommended that all Junior players take at least two of the four courses so that there is adequate coverage for all positions at tournaments. The club may establish policy to require all four clinics. This is the best practice. Online training should be completed before first tournament. Training will be required for each person participating as part of the officiating team. Training options include:
- Junior Line Judge Training
- Junior Asst. Scorer / Libero Tracker Training
- Junior Scorer Training
- Junior Second Referee Training
- The current courses all have a prefix of FL23 and those are the courses that have been loaded into each Junior player's USA Volleyball Academy account.

Coaches and member adults of a reffing team
Coaches or member adults who could serve as part of the officiating team at a USAV sanctioned Junior Tournament will take a slightly different course, which has the same basic content as the Junior players. The course is:
- Tournament Officiating Team for Coaches
- For 2022-23 the prefix for that course is FL23_150. The course is available in the USA Volleyball Academy. Members must register for this course by clicking on it in the Content Library in the USAV Academy.

Juniors interested in officiating for pay
Juniors who will be at least 16 years old in the 2022-23 season are eligible to become certified as Jr Provisional Referees and work matches as a paid official at tournaments when they are not playing. This is a great way to enjoy volleyball and earn some money! Juniors who become certified are eligible to work tournaments as a paid first referee. They will be assigned to work appropriate age groups based on their own age and officiating experience. The Florida Region Evaluation and Training Team will assist these younger referees with the training and support they need to be successful.
Certification Steps
- Be registered as a USAV Florida Region member. Juniors who are 18 years old must also have a current background screen.
- When registering, select the Jr Region Refree/Official membership.
- Your USAV Academy account will be updated with the training course for Junior Region Referees, FL23_107 Junior Provisional Paid Referee Training for 16-17-18 year-olds. This is an online training course that explains the rules, protocols, hand signals and other instructions needed to function as a paid R1 or R2 at a tournament. The course has thirteen instructional modules. It does not need to be completed all at one time.
- You will also need to complete the FL23 In-Person Orientation for new referees. This is a live online event. There will be 6 dates available starting in mid-December and running through the first week of February. You need to attend one of them.
- Finally, you will need to attend a tournament for on-court training and evaluation. You will work with members of the Florida Region Evaluation and Training team. They will guide you through the process of officiating matches. You will need to successfully complete 2 evaluations as R1 and one evaluation as R2.
- After successful completion of these steps you will receive a Provisional Referee certification and patch that will be good for one season.
