Yes, this can be confusing at first, but it is your responsibility to learn the proper ways to keep your availability current. Ask Sue Wainio for USAV sanctioned events if you are not sure what to do AFTER reading the info on the web link above.

Recertification
The recertification process includes these three things:
1) Dues and background screen must be completed before first work assignment.
2) Online training modules. National and Jr National officials will find the required information in emails from USAV and content will be on your homepage in the USAV Academy. Regional referees must take the online course for regional recertifying referees. Provisional referees must take the online course for provisional recertifying referees. Online training should be completed before your first work assignment. The actual test may be completed later, but It is HIGHLY recommended that all officials complete the test by February 15, 2020. March 1, 2020 is the deadline for National and Jr National referees, and ALL attempts at the test must be completed and passed by that date.
3) Safe Sport online training. This must be completed before your first work assignment. Instructions shown below.

Officials Uniforms
USAV has added new approved uniform shirts for volleyball officials. Now that these shirts are in production, it is a good time to clarify USA Volleyball’s policy regarding officials’ uniforms at USAV Championship events. The Florida Region is adopting these policies for their tournaments and sanctioned events.
Officials contracted to work at USAV Championship and Florida Region events will be permitted to wear the new blue or gray officials’ volleyball polo shirts, along with the new white shirt and the older version white shirt we have been wearing.
First and second referees do not have to match colors at region events. Assigned scorers and line judges can either match the referees or be in the default white. Specific instructions for national events will be decided on and communicated by the Head Officials for those events.
It is NOT required that any official go out and buy any other color besides the white. White is ALWAYS the default. The patch will be worn no matter what color polo you are wearing. Although the newest shirts have an updated logo, white shirts displaying the old version of the logo are still acceptable FOR LOCAL FLORIDA REGION TOURNAMENTS ONLY. They are no longer acceptable at any USAV nationally sanctioned qualifiers or tournaments. Note that tournament directors and / or head referees may modify that date for Florida Region events at their discretion.
Guidelines regarding the proper uniform can be found on the Volleyball Referee training site Indoor Officiating Resources Page.
The new uniform shirts are available at
http://vbofficialsgear.com/
Other official uniform items can be ordered from the following approved providers:
http://www.roofsportswear.com/
http://www.timeoutforsports.net/
If you have any questions about this policy please refer your questions to Officials Chair Darin Clark.

Safe Sport Training - Required!
Safe Sport Training is required for all officials at Junior events. Certification is good for two years.
To register for Safe Sport
To Register for SafeSport training:
For technical issues, while completing the course, please visit: http://help.usavolleyballacademy.org/.
* (NOTE: If you don't have your Membership Number (i.e.: Canadian, Puerto Rican, FIVB from another country), you may enter "Official".) You will receive a certificate when you complete the training.
* IF you included your membership number when you registered for SafeSport, you don't need to worry about sending me your certificate of completion. This will be verified, along with your membership and background screen status, before your next NOVA assignment. If you are not current in all three, you will be removed from the assignment.
* IF you are an official from another federation or country, I MUST receive a copy of your certificate of completion to officiate at this event.
Assigning Notes
We've all heard assignors tell us how important it is that we keep our availability current. This message is repeated so often from so many people and yet we still have issues! It is tough on everyone, so please, let's all do our part to keep things current!! Remember when you are adjusting your availability in NOVA to hit the UPDATE button at the bottom of the screen when you are done. Also please note that for MOST tournaments, priority is given to those who are available for ALL days of the event. This is not always the case, so check with the head referee or assignor for the event, but as a general rule it is easier, especially if hotel rooms are involved, for a referee to be assigned to all days of competition. And one more thing - if you receive an email from any of the assignors or head officials asking you to confirm your availability (or lack thereof) and you adjust NOVA availability as a result of that email, please make sure to notify me via email when it is done. This will allow me to circle back and assign you. The whole process is "out of system" so to make sure you don't get missed, it is on you to let me know when your availability is corrected. Need a refresher on NOVA availability and working with various assignors and head officials? Check out the Assigning FAQs here.
