Dec 20, 2013 - Press Release: Information on the 2013 Team Florida WAVE indoor pro teams is announced
GENERAL INFORMATIONThe Team Florida WAVE is part of the new Premier Volleyball League (PVL), a pro volleyball league sanctioned by USA Volleyball. This is a grassroots based league that is unique and has unlimited potential as teams come online across the United States. Since USA Volleyball has 40 regions there could be as many as 40 professional volleyball teams in the future.
The main difference between this pro league and all others that have come and gone is that this league is being built on a "bottom up" grassroots model as opposed to a "top down" model. We will take our team to the fans and create role models for the youth and junior athletes in the Florida Region. |

TEAM FLORIDA WAVE ATHLETE HIGHLIGHTS
#1 Brianna BarryQ: What are some awards and recognitions you are most proud of in your volleyball career?
A: I think that I am most proud of two awards I received my Senior Season at FSU - I was a All American 2nd Team member and I was named the ACC Scholar-Athlete of the year. To be named an All American was an incredible honor and it was the icing on the cake of an absolutely amazing season that I had with my team at FSU. We made it the furthest in the NCAA tournament in school history and I played some of the best volleyball with some of the best girls I will ever meet. The 2nd recognition that impacted me the most that year was being named my conference's Scholar-Athlete of the year. People think in college as an athlete you only have your sport on your mind, but that it completely not true. As an athlete you are required to maintain good grades to stay eligible, as well as juggle stressful competition schedules thrown right into the middle of your education. For me to have succeeded on and off the court, I was able to complete my college career on the best note possible. Q: Tell us about your current job. A: My current job is a Professional Volleyball Player for the Volleyball Franches-Montagnes Club Team in Saignelegier, Switzerland. If you would have told me when I was younger that I would be a professional volleyball player I may not have believed you. This tall lanky uncoordinated 12 year old girl luckily grew into my 6'3 frame and was able to find passion in volleyball and let the sport take me on the most intense emotional experience I could have asked for. #10 Kristy JaeckelQ: What are some awards and recognitions you are most proud of in your volleyball career?
-2011 AVCA Second Team All American -2011 Capital One Academic All American of the Year -2011 National Player of the Week (October 4) -2010 AVCA All American Honorable Mention -2008,2009,2010,2011 All SEC Team -SEC Champion 2007,2008,2010 -2007,2008,2009,2011 USA A2 Team Member Q: Who has impacted your volleyball career the most and why? A: My parents, my older sister Lauren, and my coaches at Front Range Volleyball Club. Lauren is the one who first started playing volleyball, so if it wasn't for her I would have never played. She introduced me to the sport and has been there for me since day one. My parents because without their love and support my career wouldn't exist. They have always been there for me, through good and bad, and always been positive and encouraging of me. I couldn't ask for a more supportive family. And my Front Range Coaches because they taught me how to work hard, love the game, and to always play to win. Q: What advice could you give to junior volleyball athletes on what it takes to be a successful volleyball athlete? A: Nothing will ever help a player more than hard work. The more hours you spend in the gym getting reps and playing, the better you will become. I think it's being able to find the joy and passion in volleyball during the tough moments and always striving to be a better playing than you are today that makes an athlete great. #12 Jordana PriceQ: What are some awards and recognitions you are most proud of in your volleyball career?
A: Awards and recognitions that I am most proud of are: - I was a part of the first outright ACC Championship team in Florida State Volleyball history. - My team and I finished in the Elite-Eight in the country, and were one win away from making the final four. - I led the Atlantic Coast Conference in blocks per set my senior year and won one of three post graduate scholarships provided to only three students from each university within the Atlantic Coast Conference. - I received the Most Influential Player award being nominated by teammates and coaches my senior year. - I was a part of the Exterminator’s team which won the first PVL National Championship in 2012. - Professionally, my team in Switzerland called VFM played for the Swiss Final Championship in 2012. Q: Who has impacted your volleyball career the most and why? A: This is an extremely tough question but I would have to say that the people that always told me I would never make it, the ones that doubted me are the ones that impacted me the most. They gave me the fire and the desire to pursue my dream and become the best player I could. Q: What advice could you give to junior volleyball athletes on what it takes to be a successful volleyball athlete? A: I would tell junior volleyball athletes that being a successful player is more than just having great skill or talent; it’s about caring for your teammates and coaches, it’s about working hard in school and being a good role model within the community and even if you don’t realize how special it is to be a student-athlete everyone else around you sees that and is looking up to you. Being a part of a team is the most amazing experience and I would suggest that you don’t take one second for granted! Last but not least…be a go getter make sure you chase your dreams never give up! |
#2 Tanner WrightQ: Tell us about your current job.
A: I am still living the dream of never growing up and staying in school FOREVER!!!! In reality I am a Medical Student at University of South Florida. Q: Who has impacted your volleyball career the most and why? A: Throughout my junior volleyball years I had many role models, great coaches, and supportive family and friends that catalyzed my love of the game. The one person who had the greatest individual impact on my volleyball career was my high school coach at Dr. Phillips High School, April Ball. Coach Ball is the most talented person I know; she isn’t just one of the best teachers of the game, but also of education, life, and developing student-athletes who are ready for the next step of their life. To her I owe any success I have had in volleyball and in my personal development as a student. Q: What advice could you give to junior volleyball athletes on what it takes to be a successful volleyball athlete? A: The only thing it takes is the mindset… if you have the motivation to want to get better, the drive to want to reach your potential, and most importantly a love for the game you can become a successful volleyball athlete. In anything you do within or outside of volleyball and athletics you should always ask yourself “Do I want to become the best at this? Do I want to put in the work to do it? Do I LOVE this?” If you can confidently answer all of those with a yes, you belong there. #11 Mike IandoloQ: What are some awards and recognitions you are most proud of in your volleyball career?
A: Getting my 1,000th kill my senior year of high school, Top 25 underclassmen to watch 2003, Fab 50 2005, Youth National Training team 2005, Junior National Training team 2006, Being a letter winner at Lewis University, MIVA All-Conference 1st Team 2009, 2010, MIVA All-Conference 2nd Team 2008, Academic All-Conference 2007-2010, 1st in Career Rally Scoring Era Assists and 3rd all-time at Lewis University, 3rd in Individual Season Service Aces, 2nd in Individual Season Service Aces Per Game at Lewis University. Q: Who has impacted your volleyball career the most and why? A: Former Head Coach, current boss, and friend- Dan Friend. He gave me a chance to transfer to Lewis and start over. Also helped mold me into a true setter and is now helping me learn coaching at the collegiate level. Q: What advice could you give to junior volleyball athletes on what it takes to be a successful volleyball athlete? A: Play as much volleyball as you can. Indoor, grass, sand- it doesn't matter, the more touches you get the better you will be. It also takes dedication, working out, and doing well in school because not doing well will keep you from playing. Also, always push the envelope on what you're able to do. #10 Nick JensenQ: What are some awards and recognitions you are most proud of in your volleyball career?
A: First of all I am proud of making it from Denmark to the US and getting the chance to play collegiate volleyball for 3 years. It was a life experience that I wouldn't trade for anything. However, my proudest moment of my volleyball career was when I got my debut for the Danish Senior National Team. I played my first game for Denmark against Austria and it was an honor to play with and against professional players. I learned a lot and I hope I can contribute with my experiences on the Florida Wave team. Q: What advice could you give to junior volleyball athletes on what it takes to be a successful volleyball athlete? A: Never stop trying. It is up to yourself how far you can go. If you put in the hours and the effort, you have the chance to accomplish exactly what you want. Take any opportunity you can to get better and keep pushing yourself to get to the next level. Q: What do you look forward to, being a part of the Team Florida WAVE? A: I look forward to playing with quality players and quality coaches. It will be a great experience that may open up opportunities in the future and it gives me a chance to improve my own play. I am very excited to play the big tournaments in the summer if I make the final roster. #7 JM PlummerQ: What are some awards and recognitions you are most proud of in your volleyball career?
A: Awards and recognitions that I am most proud of are: - In high school at Jupiter high school I won palm beach post and sun sentinel player of the year 2008 - At Lindenwood University my team won the NAIA National Championship in 2009 and placed 3rd in the nation in 2011. - MAMVIC player of the week in 2011 - MAMVIC all conference team 2011 Q: Tell us about your current job. A: Currently in between careers, for now I am a trainer for Sideout volleyball club, Jupiter high school boy’s volleyball varsity assistant, The Benjamin School girl’s volleyball varsity assistant. Q: Who has impacted your volleyball career the most and why? A: From the first day I was in an unorganized bump circle at the age of 6, to the support and advice in recent years, I owe most of my volleyball success to my family. Q: What advice could you give to junior volleyball athletes on what it takes to be a successful volleyball athlete? A: Play more volleyball! It only takes you and three of your friends to play some pick up beach, and if your friends are busy, set a ball while lying on the couch! Q: What do you look forward to being part of the Team Florida WAVE? A: Playing the game I love at a high competition level. |
