NEW OFFICIALS ORIENTATION SESSIONS

In order to participate in the clinic and rating session, you must do the following prior to the session:

1.    Register with the Florida Region
2.    Complete the background screening
3.    Complete the required on-line training modules

The idea is to complete the modules prior to the orientation session so that we don’t have to cover all of that content.  As you work through the modules, please make notes of any questions.  At the session you will have the opportunity to ask any questions that may have come up while you were doing the online training.

There will be one session in each of the Florida Region's four districts. The schedule will be published in early December.

For the New Officials Orientation Meetings
If you are planning on getting evaluated on court after the session (and you should take advantage of this opportunity if at all possible) then you should come prepared to officiate a match. Wear navy dress pants, white shoes and if you do not have an official uniform shirt, a plain white polo will be fine. Bring your whistle and other referee accessories such as a watch or stop watch (not phone), a flipping coin, red and yellow cards, ball gauge, net chain.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FOR NEW OFFICIALS

Brand new officials usually have some additional questions...here are some details that may be helpful as you go through the certification process for the first time.

Once your registration and background screening are complete, you must fulfill the requirements for your certification level. Requirements are shown on the Referee Requirements page.

For those who are brand new, your certification level is Candidate. You must have attended a Florida Region new official's orientation meeting,  and taken  your referee and scorer tests online, you will then be eligible to begin your officials training. Within 72 hours of receiving your test results, you should receive an invitation to NOVA, the region assigning system. If you have not received this invitation within 72 hours of receiving your completed test results, contact the region Officials’ Coordinator, Sue Wainio-Oato at sue@floridavolleyball.org and she will send you an invitation to NOVA.  Once you receive your username and password, please go in and fill out the rest of your personal information. It is each individual’s responsibility to keep their contact information up to date in the NOVA system as well as the USAV database. If any of your contact information changes, especially your email address, you must update it in both locations. Email is the primary communication vehicle for all officiating information and assignments.

We will then assign you a training date so you may begin your process.  Once you have done this and have been trained, you will receive your Provisional patch.  If you have questions regarding registration, you can contact the region office at info@floridavolleyball.org, or call at (352) 742-0080.  If you would like to discuss your officiating opportunities, you can contact the Official’s Coordinator, Sue Wainio-Oato at sue@floridavolleyball.org or Official's Chair, Darin Clark at darin@floridavolleyball.org. All of the contact information is on the Official’s page of the website. You can now be assigned other events in the region.
